So I finally got a new camera… This was long overdue.

Samsung DSC-T900. Nomnomnom. Nice little compact 12MP shooter with a nice touchscreen that can shoot 720P video.

These were all done without any tweaking. I just turned flash off and shot the pics. But it’s astounding that just by doing that, the pics are DRASTICALLY better than any pics I could take with my old camera after fidgeting with it for 5 minutes, using manual focus, etc etc…

Just some other random pics… I’ll do nicer completed pics of the 00 Raiser and Cherudim pretty soon. Tragically I can only take two pics at a time because I THOUGHT for some reason that the camera had 4gb internal memory, but it actually has 11mb… Hm… So I’m waiting a few days until my memory stick gets here, haha. But I could not possibly be happier with this camera thus far. I’m anxious to see how nice the video is once I get a memory card so, y’know, I can actually record some, haha.

Warning: HUGE spoilers for Gundam 00 S2 episode 25 ahead.

This is basically a write-up examining whether certain GN Drives got destroyed at the end of the final episode of Gundam 00.

Above is the schematic of 00 Gundam’s GN Drives from the 1/100’s booklet. This is, to date, the only schematic we’ve gotten showing the assembly of a GN Drive. From this drawing we can conclude the two “crucial” parts of the GN Drive are the Solar Furnace and the TD Blanket.

A quick note on GN Drive Components: The Solar Furnace and TD Blanket’s independent functions have never been explicitly stated. It is made clear that this is a component unique to true GN Drives however, so this leaves two possibilities as for how their configuration works:
1. The Solar Furnace generates unlimited amounts of energy, and the TD Blanket converts this energy into GN Particles.
2. The Solar Furnace generates unlimited amounts of GN Particles, which the TD Blanket “filters” into GN Particles that can be used.

There were some fake spoilers out a while back stating that #2 was the case, and in my opinion, this is the far more likely of the two cases. So, when we consider that the Solar Furnace is an infinite energy source, and when we consider the fact that Topological Defects, as far as the ones that exist in reality, aren’t things you can just make, we can assume that the “unique” part of a GN Drive, and thus the irreplaceable part, consists of the TD Blanket and the Solar Furnace.

A bit of a side note: GN Tau Drives work by essentially converting regular energy into GN Particles without the aid of a TD Blanket. To use a metaphor, a Gundam is a piece of electronics running by being plugged into the wall, whereas a GN-X is one running off of rechargeable batteries.

When we saw Nadleeh’s GN Drive in episode 25 of the first season it is significantly larger than, for instance, any of 00’s. This is presumably because that pod you see there contains the Solar Furnace, TD Blanket, a number of other components, plus systems to guide the drive back to the Ptolemy/Assault Container. The last one is a certainty. After all, think about it for a moment… If the GN Drive that Tieria released didn’t have any sort of thrusters or guidance systems, what was the point? If it didn’t have any of those systems, it would just sit there with him and Nadleeh, negating the purpose of releasing it at all.

Now that we’ve established that, let’s get to the whole point of this post… The state of the GN Drives after episode 25, or rather, the state of the Solar Furnaces and TD Blankets. The only drives which we can say with certainty survived were the ones within Cherudim and Arios, given the damage that each received. Cherudim’s GN Drive sits on the back of its waist and was untouched, whereas Arios’s is in its pelvis, which remained undamaged.

So first lets cover Seraphim:

There are two issues here. The first is that we don’t know how deep within Seraphim its Solar Furnace and TD Blanket are located, and thus whether or not the shot from the Reborn Cannon hit either. The second issue is we have never seen a Gundam (at least a true GN Drive Gundam) explode like this. So is just up to these two questions:

1. Did the beam hit the Solar Furnace or TD Blanket?
2. Can the Solar Furnace and TD Blanket survive an explosion like that?

I’m inclined to think that regardless of the answer to #1, the answer to #2 is no. Make your own judgements though.

On to 0 Gundam:

As you can see above, all Ribbons did was put the entire GN Drive assembly from 00 onto the 0 Gundam, thus we actually KNOW where the TD Blanket and Solar Furnace are on it.

When the 0 Gundam is stabbed, we can see the blade clearly penetrating through the back of the GN Drive assembly. Looking at the schematic at the top of this post, the 0 Gundam’s Solar Furnace and TD Blanket was almost certainly punctured. Add that to the explosion it produced, scattering GN Particles, it looks like this one is almost certainly out of the game.

Exia:

As you can see in the first picture, Exia has a different cone assembly from the 00, meaning that Setsuna had to remove the Solar Furnace and TD Blanket from the 00 and put them in the Exia. Because of this, we really can’t be sure how deep into that assembly the Solar Furnace and TD Blanket are.

When you examine how Exia was stabbed, it is uncertain if this could have hit either of the crucial components. This is the most foggy of the three, however I’m going to lean towards no mainly due to the fact that the point of entry and the point of exit (although we only get one really bad view of it) are very similar to the damage Exia suffered at the hands of the GN Flag. So assuming the mounting of the Solar Furnace and TD Blanket are the same in the Exia R2 as they were in Exia, its GN Drive’s components likely survived.

And that concludes my obsessive look at this.

A few other fun GN Drive observations/facts for the road:

It’s somewhat uncertain which suit had which drive in the final battle. We got this shot of the incomplete 00 in episode one, however when 00 launched for the first time, when Setsuna stated that 0 Gundam and Exia were with him, the GN Drives shown on screen were reversed. I’m just assuming the above picture is correct and the two pilots ended up with their original drives for the sake of symbolism and whatnot.

This is also rather important as it means there is still a chance for another Twin Drive unit, as every combination of every Gundam EXCEPT Exia didn’t work with the 0 Gundam’s GN Drive, so theoretically a Twin Drive system could be established with Exia’s GN Drive and another one of the GN Drives.

I’m not so sure what Exia was doing here, but it was sweet. The bars holding the GN Drive in place pivoted outwards and the drive actually expanded away from Exia. From the visuals, it was releasing far more particles when it did this… Perhaps it is a sort of lesser Trans-Am? Hopefully we’ll get an explanation for this later, although odds are all it really did was provide extra linear thrust.

I finally sat down and finished this guy… He’s been a torso sitting there for months upon months, and MY GOD is it beautiful.

I’m in love. When I was building this I kept thinking “shit, this is detailed,” but looking at the finished product I’m amazed…

I have never built a model that was this:
- Detailed
- Intricate
- Fragile

As far as intricate goes, I’ve built plenty of MG Gundams, the most recent being the Sinanju, and this blows them out of the water.

I mention fragile because posing the BL tends to make things fall apart… Whenever I finish this model (see below), I’ll glue a ton of the parts on to prevent that.

As for finishing the model, I’m not quite sure what to do at this point. My options are:
1. Paint it blue (Ban’s Blade Liger AB).
2. Paint it red.
3. Just flat coat it.

Of course the above three all include detailing little bits and such. I originally was pretty set on painting it blue but the red has grown on my quite significantly… We shall see. I won’t really have time for any of it until July or so, so I have plenty of time to decide. In the meantime I might detail some small metallic bits, but nothing crazy.

And also here’s a quick pic of my finished 00 Raiser and Cherudim. I’ll be getting a new camera at the end of the month so I’ll take nice gallery pics of the two then.

The top of my microwave is starting to look rather cluttered… I’ll probably get a little display case for ‘em next year when I have a bit more room.

- Starts with a ceremony of some kind regarding the orbital elevator’s destruction with everyone cheering. I could be wrong, but it seems that they are saying the terrorists fired Memento Mori.
- Katagiri and “the blonde A-Laws guy” are talking and mention that Kati didn’t show up to the ceremony.
- Meanwhile CB is attacking either the Memento Mori from the last episode or a new one.
- Of note, both the 00 Raiser and Arios Archer are in combat with Saji and Marie piloting their respective units.
- Setsuna and Saji use the 00 Raiser to destroy Memento Mori by essentially cutting the entire part above the orbital ring off.
- Shot of some people from Katharon yammering on about how it’s great that CB took out Memento Mori. All is well until an Automaton bursts in and guns them down.
- Marina, Klaus, Shirin, and the kids are shown in some sort of countryside cottage.
- Klaus x Shirin moments.
- Marina’s song is on the radio?

- Back at the Ptolemy, Marie is being rather biatchy, and it is revealed that Soma has been in control since Sergei died. It is also shown that she realizes that it was Andrei that killed Sergei.
- Setsuna is being examined for his bullet wound, and it is mentioned that he is infected with fake GN Particles. Anew mentions that it is the same thing infecting Lasse.
- Wang Lie Mei and Ribbons talking. Aka I’m useless.
- Regene walks in afterwards, asking if it was alright to tell her something about the Innovators.

- Louise and Andrei talking… Wtf, Andrei’s locker is bigger than Louise. Sexist much?
- Andrei says he was just killing members of the coup faction. Revive and Healing press him to reveal the truth to Louise.
- Revive and Healing say something along the lines that he should have been glad he even had a father.
- Andrei hugs Louise and thinks of Saji.
- Saji decides that he must fight in order to save Louise.
- People on the Ptolemy talking about the EFSF’s announcement at the beginning of the ep, but seriously, all I hear is “desu” and “Veda.”
- Basically, the decide that they need to recapture Veda, and to do so need to capture an Innovator.
- OHSHI-! Anew is in bed with Lyle. PLAYA!

- Anew asks about Lyle’s brother. When Lyle asks about her family her head starts hurting. Lyle hugs her and kisses her to comfort her. As they’re kissing, Anew’s eye shoots open in Veda-mode.
- Of note, both Marie and Setsuna feel a surge from the quantum brainwave.
- It is shown Revive was using her to locate the Ptolemy (again).
- Cue MASSIVE assault on the Ptolemy. Of note is that Bushido is shown talking to Billy and prior to heading to the Masurao, he dons a different, smaller mask.
- Shows Regene giving Wang and Hong Long a piece of folded paper.
- Setsuna sees Saji on the way to the hangar and says “Saji Crossroad.”
- Saji explains he wants to save Louise, while stuggling to find words, Setsuna extends his hands and says “Let’s save Louise Halevy.”
- Prior to launching, Allelujah says “Arios Archer. Allelujah Haptism. Soma Pieres. Heading out.”
- Before he launches, Lyle tells Anew he loves her. Cue freakout from Desu and everyone else on the bridge.
- Epicness of everyone saying who they’re fighting for prior to the start of the battle.

- It is revealed that the piece of paper that Regene gave Wang contained the location of Veda, presumably from Ribbons since it had the instructions not to transmit it in any way, but hand it to them in person.
- In the next episode preview, aming other things, we see that Louise and Saji meet face-to-face.

- Ribbons says HE is the future of humanity. Oh no he didn’t.
- Katharon shows up and starts getting bitched by the ESF. Lockon rushes in to fight and Tieria and Allelujah follow him.
- Allelujah talked for the first time in 10 episodes.
- Setsuna, despite having a gaping bullet wound for the past four episodes, decides to launch off in the 00. Ian insists that the 0 Raiser have a pilot, and Setsuna asks Saji to be the pilot, to “fight to protect.”
- Ian gives Saji a white pilot suit.
- 00 and the 0 Raiser launch seperately and then dock.
- Saji is clearly feeling some hurt from the G-forces. Poor guy.
- The 00 Raiser goes for Memento Mori alone. Divine intercepts him in the Empuress and apparently is destroyed. Divine seems to be deadifyed.
- HOLY FUCK SETSUNA MAKES A GIANT AS SHIT BEAM SABER AND CUTS INTO MEMENTO MORI WITH IT.
- Despite beam sabers the size of fucking planets, Memento Mori fires as the 00 Raiser falls back to Earth.

- Memento Mori hits the top of the elevator.
- OH SHIT THE VISUALS ARE AWESOME.
- Sergei escapes in his Tieren and Hercules is in a GN-XIII.

- The orbital trains carrying the civilians are destroyed on their way down.

- Oh yeah, there are a few cities in the way of the elevator falling…

- The Gundams start blowing up the debris falling. Cherudim uses its shield bits to shoot at everything. So ha, suck it to everyone who claimed they actually couldn’t fire.
- Marie shows up in the GN Archer to help out her boy.
- Katharon starts helping out in destroying the debris, along with the forces in favor of the coup d’etat.
- Aaaand, finally the ESF decides to help out too.
- A-Laws shows up on the scene… And we are all left in suspense as to whether or not they’re gonna be dicks.
- But nope, they help out. Yay for everyone fighting to protect innocent people for once.
- Hank and Sergei arrive down on Earth to shoot at shit.
- Marie sees Sergei’s Tieren and recognizes it as her old unit.
- Andrei realizes his father is there and turns to shoot at him, but gets distracted by the GIANT ASS TOWER FALLING ON THEM.
- Seravee goes Trans-Am and does his usual thing.
- 00 Raiser arrives. Arios and Cherudim go Trans-Am for maximum Gundaming.
- After all is said in done, it seems they prevented a decent amount of the destruction.
- Sergei and Hercules are chilling out and a beam comes out of nowhere and blows up Hercules’s GN-XIII.
- Andrei flys out of nowhere and starts beating on Sergei’s Tieren, saying he killed his mother.
- Marie tries to help Sergei, who is intercepted by Louise, who is then intercepted by 00 Raiser/Saji.
- Andrei stabs the Tieren through the chest.
- Okay, despite my obvious cynical attitude at the moment, that was rather tragic.
- Sergei, in the cockpit, covered in blood, says his last words to Andrei before pushing the Tieren away from the GN-XIII.
- He sees a vision of his wife just before the Tieren explodes.
- Marie screams for Sergei.
- Okay, I saw NOTHING meaningful in the next ep preview other than peoples faces looking dramatic.   

Spoilers ahead, obv…

This is a VERY dialogue heavy episode, so since my Japanese is rubbish I can only be so useful here… Enjoy the screens at least, haha.

The episode begins with Hercules making an announcement to everyone in the orbital elevator that they are evacuating everyone not part of the coup d’etat.

Sergei’s reaction to hearing of the coup d’etat on the news is shown and it goes into a flashback of himself, his wife (who was also in the miltary), and Hercules speaking on a bench.

Note: Every fricken’ flashback is on a bench.

Shots of all of the various camps reacting to the coup d’etat. Fun stuff. About now I start wondering what the hell Setsuna and Bushido are doing…

A-Laws launches Aheads to the elevator, where they release automatons.

Speaking of quantum brainwaves, the Innovators are shown talking amongst themselves in their typically non-concerned fashion. Speaking of people who can access Veda (see: Ep 15), Louse is outside talking to Andrei. A flashback is shown in which Hercules met Andrei. When Hercules complimented his father Andrei spouted the “He’s the reason my mother is dead” bit.

Sergei and Hercules are talking for quite a while. This whole time I’m STILL wondering whether or not I’m missing Graham Specials…

The automatons are shown breaking into the area full of civilians and shooting them down. Hercules and Andrei watch that on the new on Earth, they are showing parts of the automatons killing civilians but editing in ESF soldiers in the automatons place to make it look like the coup’ers are the ones doing the slaughtering.

And I’m all like, where the hell is Setsuna?

Suddenly…

OH GOD YES!!!

Wait a minute.

They replayed the entire scene from the end of the last episode starting at Setsuna doing a U-turn in the 00 Raiser to head to the elevator. Laaaame…

I CAME.

Anyhow, Masurao is just absolutely wailing on the 00 Raiser. It is shown that the 00 Raiser can make a full GN Field (that’s new). Setsuna goes Trans-Am to fight against Bushido, all the while his GN bullet wound is clearly paining him quite a bit…

The other three Gundams show up in Trans-Am and Bushido retreats. Setsuna nearly just drops out of the sky in the 00 Raiser due to an apparent combination of physical/emotional pain.

There is a massive troop movement at the bottom of the orbital elevator, but the troops are moving away from the elevator. It shows Sumeragi, Kati/Billy, and Hercules/Sergei all coming to the same conclusion at the same time…

Cut to another Memento Mori getting ready to fire at the base of the orbital elevator.

POWER SUMMARY GO!!!

After destroying the Memento Mori, Saji marvels at Celestial Being. Marie detects three approaching units, which are revealed to be a new mobile armor piloted by Divine, a Garazzo piloted by Bring, and a Gadessa piloted by Revive (both mobile suits are equipped with the boosters that were on the Garazzo during its first sortie).

The new OP is beautiful and has plenty of stuff going on in it.

Just a few shots from the OP. Then there was…

THIS. I came so fucking hard. It’s no secret I’m a huge Flag fanboy so I saw this and emitted the following sound: “GAAHUDFUSDFSDJNSDLKJFBSDKLJFBSDJKFD.”\

Setsuna arrives at the rendezvous point with the Ptolemy and finds debris. Nena shows up and greets Setsuna, informing him the Ptolemy went down to Earth. Setsuna runs off without another word, much to Nena’s dismay.

Hercules and Sergei are shown talking. Hercules informs Sergei of a planned coup d’état of the Federation.

Ian awakens and is fully recovered. He promptly discovers there is a gaping hole in the side of the Ptolemy.

The Ptolemy crew discusses repairs, which Saji is helping with along with the Haros. It is revealed that the mobile armor that shot them down has a massive death cannon similar to the Alvatore. Marie arrives with food (because she does little else these days), and Mileina gets like preposterously excited about it. Meanwhile outside, Lockon and Anew talk for a bit, at a certain point Lockon insists Anew call him Lyle. Sumeragi is also briefly shown apologizing to Allelujah for involving Marie in the battle.

On Earth, Setsuna comes across the gaping hole that was once Seel when the Arche Gundam flies by. As Setsuna quickly heads after it, it is obvious Ali is intentionally luring him somewhere.

At the Katharon base, Klaus, Shirin, and the others are shown discussing the potential coup d’état. They soon hear singing voices, which is shown to be the children led by Marina.

Ali and Setsuna reach Krugis, where the Arche Gundam turns around and starts descending. While still in the air, Ali gets out of his cockpit. After landing, Setsuna follows suit. The two converse briefly as Setsuna accuses Ali of helping the Innovators. Setsuna quickly pulls his gun on Ali who stops him by saying that he should wait until he meets his sponsor.

Ribbons walks out from behind a tower behind the Arche Gundam. He greets Setsuna as Setsuna F. Seiei, and the Soran Ibrahim. Ribbons reveals that he was the pilot of the 0 Gundam that saved Setsuna years ago and asks Setsuna to join the Innovators to change the world. Setsuna appears to hesitate, considering his proposition, before pulling his gun on Ribbons.

A gunshot is heard and Setsuna falls down in the palm of the 00 Raiser, hit in the shoulder by a bullet from Ali’s gun. He presses a button on the palm of the Gundam to return him back to the cockpit.

Back at the Ptolemy it is decided to sortie the Seravee and Arios to search for Setsuna.

Meanwhile Setsuna and Ali are locked in combat. Setsuna clearly is under quite a bit of stress, likely due to the bullet in his fucking shoulder/upper arm. Amidst the battle, Setsuna manages to use the 00 Raiser’s shoulder pieces to slice one of the Arche’s legs.

The Seravee and Arios are intercepted by the Garazzo and Gadessa, respectively.

Bring damages the Seravee considerably, chopping in half the GN Bazooka and cutting off its right arm. The Seravee grabs the Garazzo with its remaining arm and its leg-cannon-arms and goes Trans-Am.

AND THEN SUDDENLY!!!

The backpack transforms and launches off of the Seravee. It is clear this isn’t a drone as once suspected but an MS that brings both Tieria and the GN Drive with it.

Tieria announces that since he can’t use Nadleeh, he instead will use the Seraphim Gundam. Ribbons is shown briefly being shocked due to detecting what had happened through Veda.

The Seraphim leaps over the Seravee as the Garazzo turns on its GN Field. The Seraphim’s hands penetrate through the GN Field before transforming back into beam cannons, which shoot within the GN Field, destroying the Garazzo and killing Bring.

Ali intercepts a Katharon carrier, holding Klaus, Shirin, and their crew (just to note, not Marina). Before he can damage it, a Trans-Am 00 Raiser pops out to fight Ali.

Setsuna essentially starts taking the Arche to the house. The massive beams shot out during Trans-Am destroy the Arche’s fangs, and the 00 Raiser starts cutting the Gundam to pieces.

As Setsuna moves to stab the Arche in the cockpit, he hears Marina saying his name echoing, causing him to pause with the blade meters away from stabbing through the Arche.

Marina’s song begins to fill the cockpit, and it is shown everyone can hear it as well, due to the link caused by the 00 Raiser’s Trans-Am. The Arche Gundam explodes as Ali escapes in a similar manner to the escape pod in the Gadessa and Garazzo. Marina’s song serves as the ED for this episode.

The new mobile armor is shown to be docked on the same ship as Louise, who meets Divine. Quick sidenote: Louise appears to be piloting a recolored version of this mobile armor in the OP.

Meanwhile, Billy presents Mr. Bushido with his new suit. When Mr. Bushido/Graham notes that it resembles a Flag, Billy denotes it the Samurai Flag, noting that Professor Eifman had an influence on it and it incorporates a feature that he had discovered prior to his death.

As Graham heads to his new unit, Billy turns and pulls out a photo of Sumeragi and himself from the university. He rips it up and throws its pieces into the air, whispering “Goodbye, Kujo.”
